  1. Since last class, Kasey and I have been making sure that we are good to go come Tuesday when we are going to present. It is crucial for our speech that we have our props, so we both made sure that we got the appropriate props the day before our speech. We have been communicating through our phones to keep in touch. A challenge that we encountered was making the audience feel like they could understand our skill. During the dry run, we did not have props, so it was harder for us to convey our skill. We discussed what we needed to bring for the day of the speech in order to solve this issue. We also made a slide show presentation for a more visual aspect of our speech. After watching the dry-run on my own time, I feel that Kasey and I were very successful for the first run of our speech. Our outline was extremely helpful and we were able to talk to the audience comfortably without having to use it too often. Being that Kasey and I have just met each other, I feel like we have done a great job working with one another and really being able to communicate outside of the classroom!

  2. Since last class Sydney and I have been working on what our next steps in finalizing and understanding our project is going to be. We got a lot of good feedback in class during ht Dry Run so we now know what we need to be working on to ensure this speech is the best it can be. We are now working on adding a section into our speech about creating an organization list for assignments and walking the class through ways that they too can become more organized. A lot of the feedback was about making sure we actually added things that would help teach something, and the use of the visual will be super helpful to that. Sydney and I have been texting and emailing back and forth to make sure we each know what is getting added and changed, and going from there with the corrections for Tuesday’s presentation.

  3. Since last class me and my partner Bobby, have been reading the good aspects of our dry run speech and our bad ones. We made some changes in the slideshow we have. Felt that there was too much information in words and not enough pictures to show. Understood that we went too long for our dry run so lots were shortened in our speech. Me and Bobby would always contact one another when we changed something on the slideshow. There were issues trying to figure out what was needed to change for the speech to be shorter and in the guidelines.

  4. Since last class, I have been practicing making the slime and finding the correct measurements for the borax and the glue. I think I have found what works best. I will also measure that out for the class groups as well for when we make the slime together. I have been texting with my partner for our main source of communication throughout the speech preparation. The challenges that we have encountered were just trying to find the correct measurements for the slime so we can make it easily during the presentation. Overcoming this was to just practice making the slime and doing test runs to see what works best. I think we have had a lot of successes such as good content in the speech and a good presentation that the whole class will get to enjoy and keep with them as well. I also think that my classmates really appreciate this and are excited for it as much as we are.

  5. Lizzy and I have been working towards finishing our presentation of our skill. We have used the comments from others to shorten our speech, as well as make certain changes that we both deem as fit to change. This includes shortening, leaning more towards the basics and not going into too great of detail, as well as adding better pictures to help the audience visualize what we are saying. We have both done a good job staying in contact and informing each other of when we make changes to the presentation.

  6. Since last class, Sophia and I have done a rough dry run of our speech on our own time as well as an in-class dry run that we took a video of so we could see what works well and what needs to be improved. We have discussed how we are going to present our topic and who is going to talk about each point. We reviewed the video from our dry run and agreed on what we had to work on and will implement it into our final speech. Sophia and I have been communicating through email, meeting in person, and on our shared speech 2 outline document. One thing we have done well is deliver an in-class dry run to the entire class. We received feedback from all of our peers on things that are working well and things we should work on. One thing was to include pictures to help the audience understand, so we have created our slideshow that we will use for our final speech which includes pictures and videos to match our points in our speech. We both feel confident with our speech and feel that if we continue to work together, we will deliver a great speech.

Since the last class, Mackie and I have been finalizing our speech and have decided to edit it and add a better visual to the presentation, we communicate via the phone number, and I sent the video that was taken of our dry run over email due to the file size. I would say the hardest part is working on the project at the same time, When we do work on the project at the same time, it is typically later at night because that is just when we are available. We tried to make our visuals a guide for our speech as well, so we could minimize our ums and uhs. We also hope to be a bit slower and sound more confident with our new “prop.” I think that the step-by-step instructions that we have will benefit the class, and will also help better explain just how much we organize. Our speech just needed that extra oomph which we believe we added by including visuals and step-by-step instructions.

  8. After last class me and Mia have been communicating over snapchat and text quite frequently making sure we have everything we need for our speech. We keep updating new ideas, and bouncing off each other. We each have printed the outlines and have been practicing in our own time. We discussed constructive criticism and planned out new ways we could help fix those issues when we furthermore present it twice. One thing we did well was keep the audience engaged and do that with just our personalities mixing well itself together, even though we were randomly paired up we share a similar vibe toward each other, which allows us to have a conversation like speech that flows naturally. Some of the most rounded feedback we got was saying like, um and as less. Naturally everyone says it between sentences when talking in front of a class even in conversation with my closest friends. I get a few Um’s in there so working on that itself for us to have a better speech will only help us become successful speakers not just in class but going up for jobs and life etc. I’ve had a great time planning with Mia and I’m excited to watch our speech grow and become more us.

  9. Since our last class, Kaitlyn and I met up to finalize our props and slides and boost each other’s confidence in our presentation. We have done our own personal dry runs a couple times and discussed who would be taking which parts of the speech. We talked through our plan for visuals since we got a lot of feedback regarding how the use of props would definitely make our speech more understanding. I am confident with how we did in our dry run so I am also feeling confident with our ability to give the real thing to the whole class. We continue to email back and forth as our way of communicating and so far all has worked out really well. High hopes so far for our presentation, getting the dry run feedback has helped a lot and even helped to boost our confidence as well. It has been good to prepare our speech already knowing what we have to work on.

  10. Since last class, I have rewatched the video recording of our presentation to find out some key aspects that I failed at during the dry run. I isolated some of my shortcomings, which involved speaking too fast, fidgeting, and overall nervousness to present. I have been trying to work on these aspects for the final presentation and future ones as well. I have been communicating with my partner Maddie, and we have practiced our speech together, and on our own. We used the lobster trap to practice, and practiced without it as well. I had some challenge bringing in the trap since I had to park kind of far away, but it wasn’t too bad of a trek. It was also challenging to determine the depth of detail that we should go into, but I think we have landed on a nice middle ground. We originally cut out a large amount from the script before the dry run, and after presenting, we decided it might be best to incorporate some of that information back into the script to add length and details for the final speech. Some successes Maddie and I had was that we have an interesting skill to present to the class, and a strong script and selection of props to support it.

  11. Since last class my partner and I were unfortunately not able to meet. Being unable to meet made this project a little difficult but by understanding the situation and planning around it we were able to make it work. We have been consistently reaching out by texting and plan who is going to be covering what part of the speech and how we are going to demonstrate our skill. We were successful in staying in touch and reaching out to one another if there was a concern or if one of us needed further clarification. Getting feedback from our peers made us more prepared and comfortable with our final presentation. We made tiny adjustments that will lead to a greater impact during the speech.

  12. Watching my video, I can see that I need to work on my eye contact. I can also work on my speech, making my points clear. I think both our tones are good. We are not too quiet or loud. I think that we have a good flow, we are not rushing through and our layout is good to follow. Some of our feedback was to work on not mumbling, to make sure that we are speaking clearly. Another was our prop, we will have a powerpoint but I get it was kind of hard to stay attentive without something to visually see. I think we did good for a dry run, not saying we were perfect but we knew what points we wanted to hit. I also liked how we played off others’ presentations on how our “eating on campus” applies to everyone. I do think we need to work on our layout a bit and mumbling but for a dry run it was okay.

  13. I have been very fortunate to have Aiden as my partner, we both stay on task together pretty well and we get our work done in a timely manner. Since last class, our communication has been the same as it always has, which is talking about ideas while we work on our parts individually and making sure that at all times we are on the same page. We should be well-equipped for the presentation on Friday in terms of practice, content, and the props we will be using.
The hiccups that we have encountered have been due to my absence, so we have just been a little bit behind. I thought that we handled these situations well and have still developed strong material for the speech regardless of the obstacles. Partial thanks also to Jesse for being flexible about our timing and abrupt changes in scheduling. All in all, the success of this speech is that I feel confident that we will have a great final presentation, and that I enjoy talking about the topic of our speech. Should be more than all set for our speech Friday.

  14. Since last class, Rachael and I did a dry run and received very helpful feedback from the class. They gave us some insight on what went well, and some things we need to work on. Rachael also sent me the recording of the dry run, so I have watched that and made some notes on what I could improve on. There were some moments of silence, and gaps in the speech. Now that we have the slime recipe down, we can do better at filling in these gaps and we can be more confident in making the slime. Rachael and I will also pre measure some of the ingredients for the class to make the process at seamless as possible. Overall, we are on track for a great speech.

  15. From last class Andrew and I have been working on finalizing the last of our speech and props. We met up a few times and went over the process and I am pretty confident we are on a good path. Our dry run went pretty well considering it was with our props and since we were able to look at the outline. We got a lot of good feedback from the class which was also very helpful. One of the biggest things that I got was to not look at the outline so much and work on eye contact. That made sense and was definitely something I had to work on because during the dry run I basically read off of it word for word. Something for the final is that I just need to remember that I know what I’m talking about and just get a little more comfortable being up there. Another big thing that we got was to slow down and I think that will also come with getting more comfortable, it’s just something that is going to take a little more time and rehearsal.

  16. Since last class I have been taking into account what my classmates gave me back for information both good and bad and implementing it into my speech. Along with making cuts to ideas and adding ideas to my presentation. deciding what I want to show for my stretches and also having my partner make a slideshow to help visualize what I will be presenting. Me and G have met in person and have talked over the phone.

  17. After the dry-run me and my partner Taylor tried to reorganize our speech to better accommodate our necessary time frame. As well as to try and hopefully make our speech a little easier to digest and present. We also made a bunch of revisions to our working outline and put together a short bridged outline of our speech for the Professor. I also made a personal three page outline for just my part as sort of “linguistic training wheels” as I felt I needed much more help staying on track that my partner.
We both regrettably weren’t able to meet a second time like we planned for second “rehearsal” which I think would have greatly benefited us in the long run. Due to me living off campus and not being able to regularly get back on to campus, then being really busy the time I am here during the week, it made if very difficult to coordinate times to really sit down and work out some very cohesive ideas. So we got stuck with a sort of “incremental collaboration” where we had to work separately in our own time, then re-coalesce our ideas at any available junction, usually via text. This made it much more difficult to get a cohesive idea than I would imagine other groups did.

  18. Since the last class, Kasey and I have been focusing on our outline. Whether it’s meeting in person or working digitally we’ve done our best to stay productive and efficient. We’ve had an abundance of challenges that we’ve had to overcome. Kasey got a concussion and couldn’t look at screens for about a week, and then a couple of days prior to Friday, which is when we were supposed to give a speech I came down with an illness that didn’t allow me to get up from bed on Friday morning. We then adjusted and we’re allowed to move it to next Tuesday although we were fully prepared for Friday, we’ll make sure it’s extra polished and probably meet one or two more times before Tuesday. Kasey and I have had some successes too, when we’re both doing okay then we collaborate very well and we get what we need to get done. Overall, we’re at a good pace and we’re ready to perform our speech to the class on Tuesday.

  19. Since last class, my partner and I have met to modify our general and individual outlines. We completely changed our main points from general locations to eat without any specific order to a gradient of small snacks to full meals. We then included different options at the locations with full meals and concluded with suggestions and options for cooking in the dorms. While we met, we had creative and idea overload, where we had to make the decision to include or leave out those additional ideas because they didn’t flow well with our main points. We created our individual outlines which incorporated all main points; in the event that one of us blanked or forgot the other person’s point; and elaborated with supporting points in our own outline. Lastly, we rehearsed from start to finish with the powerpoint multiple times, in order to figure out how we could effectively transition into each main point and work off of each other.

  20. Colby and I have been texting about the dry run we have on Tuesday. We feel pretty good and he is feeling much better. I am unable to write journal number 8 since Colby was sick on Friday and could not come to class. We have everything pushed back a class which has been an advantage (we have more time). We have worked on making the outline concise and each bullet has detail that each person will touch on. We haven’t really encountered a lot of challenges because we have worked really well together.
