  1. Since last class, I have been working with my group to organize our forth speech and get a better sense of how we can execute it well. This project is a bit tricky since we all have separate majors and there’s only so much you can talk about a major in college and make it interesting but I we are going to try our best. Also this project will end up being more like an acting gig rather than public speaking so I wonder if it will be easier or more difficult to do in comparison to a live speech to the class. My partners are Maddie and Kasey and we decided on doing a talk show, which hopefully will go well. We have done work on assigning roles for each member, brainstorming for names of the talk show, and some different topics that we can discuss. There is a lot of potential to have a fun talk show type speech so I have been thinking of different bits or games that we can do to spice things up, our group had the idea of doing a Jeperty type game to convey information in a more entertaining way rather then just talking. We will continue to develop our speech and refine where needed.

  2. Since last class, I have been doing some research on my major and looking back to what has led me to where I am now, both academically and personally. So far, this speech has already made me take a look at my major and my future in a way that I have not done yet. I am realizing how flexible I can be with my education in college, I do not just have to have one strict path that my major decides, my choice of minors, the projects, people and extracurriculars that I involve myself with also greatly impact the path I want to take in my major. For speech 4, my partners and I have decided to take on a panel/roundtable structure since we feel as though it is the most interactive and reasonable set up for what we want to get across to the audience. It has been difficult reminding myself that this speech is about convincing others about why I personally belong in this major and not why I think they should check out my major. Heading forward I need to stay focused on the topic and try not to get off track with all the other elements of my educational career.

  3. My partner and I have only had one full class to work on speech 4 due to extenuating circumstances. We decided to take a humorous talk show route, because of our rather crazy paths we’ve taken. We want to do a timeline focusing on one person while the other asks questions, then the other. We’ve started a list of questions that will begin with our plans in highschool and end with our current major, why it’s right for us, and our plans for the future. A friction point I foresee is losing focus on the details of our current major and speaking too much on our past. I have a few goals that I would like to accomplish in this speech, other than the explicit purpose to educate others on our major. Both Kaitlyn and I have military experience, herself enlisting in the reserves and myself commissioning as an officer, I want to be able to portray to the audience that the military is a great option to assist financially in school and for future careers, whether that be through ROTC, national guard, or reserves. I also want to reassure the younger audience members that having a change of heart midway through college doesn’t mean you have to completely start over and that most academic advisors will work their hardest to ensure you reach those goals in a timely manner.

  4. Since last class me and Rachael have made big improvements on our speech 4. We have made an outline of our so-called script but really want it to feel like a natural conversation. We are already close as teammates so having this talk show of “r&k socially advanced show” is going to be filled with humor, questions and natural based conversation. We have come together to make the decisions that we are going to involve a live audience (our friend) and having them ask us questions throughout as well making it different and unique having that and getting more people involved with our speech is interesting. Switching off roles from both being host I think would benefit our speech and we came up with the idea that we both will pass it back to each other when the time is right to give different inputs on each side of what we want to do with our major even though we both want to do social work going complete opposite direction is going to be difficult but in the end benefit the pros and cons of what we want to do with work in the future.

  5. Our project for speech four has been coming along nicely, but we are still in the early stages of developing it. Before last class, we had an outline built of what our topic is, what we are going to be talking about, how to wrap it up, and basically every other moving part. After we presented our idea to the class, we noticed it was a little bit boring in comparison to the other pitches. Because of this, we might do some reworking with the direction of our project, but then again we also might keep things the same to go after our own original idea. As of now, our main goals should be around coming up with material for the script and organizing time in and out of class to do this. We already have a number of potential questions that we will be asked by the fictional audience, and we can come up with responses to them rather easy. Our script will most likely look similar to a movie screenplay with dialogue, action description, and all the other fun stuff that goes along with text-to-screen work. We are not planning on working too much on the script or other parts of this project because it is my assumption that we are a day behind in terms of scheduling.

  6. Since last class as a group have come up with our name and logo. Personally I have created specific questions for myself and my major that Khloe will be able to ask during our talk show, and seeing how we are going move along with the talk show itself. We have really just been creating ways to make the talk show fun and make it a way for us to all highlight the importance of our majors, and what they mean to us. I think moving forward, we need to start creating ways for us to combine all of our majors and questions. Working on the details and getting the kinks out of our speech and how we will run the talk show itself will really be what needs to be focused on this week. Preparing questions, and answers to the questions as well as creating segments and portions of the talk show to make it engaging to our audience while also being able to give the most amount of information about what we all are studying and why.

  7. After having our dry dry dry run today in class I am feeling good about what we have as a start. Talking it out in front of class was helpful because we were able to get a little bit of feedback from other students about what they thought of our ideas. It was also interesting to listen to other peoples takes and ideas and kind of see what others were doing with this project. From this class to the next I think we should spend some time developing a script, either on our own or together and begin to establish a solid base of what we are doing. Right now what we have is more of an outline and we should probably start locking in some ideas. I think we work well as a team and are able to communicate wisely so getting this started should not be too much of a problem. Next class is a dry dry run so that is why I think having a little bit more of a real script will be helpful. However there still isn’t any pressure to have too much figured out.

  8. Since last class, I have been working a little bit on speech 4. I added some ideas to the doc that we have shared and me and my partner talked about how we want to set up our speech and more details about that. We know what kind of questions we will be asking and answering. We also know how we will answer these questions while giving two different perspectives on it. I think this speech is going to be really interesting. We are pretty prepared and at a good pace to what we want to accomplish. We have good details and a great name that we came up with. We also know the set up of our speech and how we want it to go which will be really cool.

  9. Since last class, Sydney, Keigan, and I have made a pretty detailed rough draft. We were all able to mutually deicide that we wanted to model our project like a news outlet. Syd and I both share a major of Athletic training and Keigan is majoring in sports management. All our majors connected in a way we realized after talking to one another, so we hope when doing this project that we can transition smoothly when talking about our majors. Since I work in the AT room on campus, I had a great idea where I could interview different AT’s, AT students, and possibly athletes to get there input about the field of athletic training. Keigan was also thinking he could interview some upperclassmen within sports management to gain there insight. I think the three of us are moving along with this project at a good pace!

  10. Since last class me and my group have been working on adding to our parts. We did meet up to discuss what we would like to do about the outline of it and by ourselves we have been working on writing our part of the script. We thought it was a good idea to work on our scripts by ourselves on a shared google doc to be able to write down what we wanna talk about in our major and then be able to have transitions from what eachother wrote. I feel like our group is having a good understanding of what is going on and where our speech 4 is forming into. We are still trying to figure out how we will be making the video of our talk show but we decided that is a challenge for another day.

  11. From doing our pre dry dry run last class, my group has gained some great feedback from the class. It was very helpful to talk through our ideas and move forward. Our speech is taking the form of a talk show, and we now have a potential name for it (Bed). I also found it very helpful to hear from other groups about their plans. It made me think of other ways to incorporate certain elements into our talk show. I particularly liked an idea from one group where they planned on filming from multiple angles/shots to give more movement to the video. I thought this was a great idea, and my group might try to utilize this technique. None of us are really tech savvy, but I think that if we collaborate, we can make it work. I have also been doing some more research into my major, and have developed some answers to the questions that will be asked in our project. Overall, it is coming together nicely.

  12. We have all been working on our dry dry run outline since last class. Everyone has been able to put their individual parts on the outline and we have been able to weave them together. I added my individual lines talking about my major and why it works for me. I was able to write in the transitions from Lizzy to me and then from me to Bobby which will be nice to have for our dry dry run. I anticipate us maybe doing some thinking as we do our run, as it will probably ebb and flow through content. Overall, I think we are keeping a good pace with this project and I am excited to see how it turns out!

  13. So far me and my group have been doing pretty well with this speech 4. We are already pretty organized and have a thought-out schedule as to what we will be doing. We have a whole draft ready for when we record. I feel like we had a pretty good dry dry run and we are on a good course to what is to come. I think because of our diverse majors our conversation is going to go very far, and I am pretty excited for it. I think we still have a bit to add however and touch up on some details. One struggle we reconized was our ability to use the technoligy. None of us are any good at Imovie or editing skills when it comes to videos so we will have to figure that out as a team and play around.

  14. Since last class my group choose each of our roles (me being host, etc) and picked a name and logo for a talk show. I personally designed and created our logo. I have also created some basic questions to ask my group. I have started a basic script as a guid line but I am waiting till my group gets together to talk about specific questions to each person. I think when we get together with each questions that can relate to our majors creating a more in depth script will be easier. We can also talk about how we want to make it funny with comedy. Also look at how we want to film it through a singular lens or multiple and work on the audio set up. I think we have a good start with the talk show name, logo, a basic layout for our script, and know the direction we want to go. Overall I think we are in a good place and a progressing at a timely mannaer

  15. Since last class, I feel like our group is in pretty good standing. Mia, Keigan and I have a detailed draft of our ideas and we are working towards finding ways to execute our vision. Mia and I are both majoring in Athletic Training, so we are tackling the major together and creating a fun approach to it . Keigan is a sports management major, he also has a similar approach as Mia and I do. Our major have some connection to each other, so we are excited to create this video for everyone. Mia actually works in the AT room so she had the idea of actually interviewing the AT here and the professional staff in the AT department. We think it would be fun to also interview athletes as they have a different perspective when in the AT room. Keigan plans on interviewing his coach and some people in the major to get their insight. I think the group is good with everything so far, the hard part is finding that time to film.

  16. Felt pretty confident about our group after the super dry run. We got together again to go over and discuss some more ideas. We have a solid understanding of how our talk show will unfold. I started writing my specific part of the talk show. Going over ideas for myself to talk about that are knowledgeable and also keeps the listener entertained. We will have a solid transition from person to person. Aiden is more the medical side of social work, as a med bio major this can work as an easy transition. Plan on talking about my classes, next year I will have more specific classes to what I want to do for work, looking into internships, etc.

  17. Since last class my group and I have decided on what route to take our speech, the name and logo, and a basic layout of how our speech will go. We have decided on a talk show as the best way to explain and talk about our majors to the class. With that we are doing a more q&a style talk show but keeping sure to make it entertaining by incorporating humor and other fun details. Khloe has designed the logo for our talk show name “The Medicine Cabinet” and Mackie and I have been preparing questions and answers. Khloe is our host so she will be leading a majority of the discussions, but she will be included and talk about her major with the help of Mackie and I asking her questions back. As a group we have more details to work out but in general I think we are in a good place to have everything done without being rushed.

  18. So far for the speech my partner and I have not had much in class time to work on this speech due to other circumstances. We have decided to take the route of a talk show because we feel that it will be a great way to tell others about our crazy path we have taken to get to where we are now. We are going to do a timeline of our paths from our plans out of high school to where we are now with our current major, we will also include our plans for the future. During the “talk show” we are going to ask each other questions that we came up with during our first-class period working together and as well as the questions we have added since last class. We feel that we will be able to add a humorous aspect to this speech due to us not being able to make up our minds about our majors. One challenge we are going to work to get around is making sure we don’t lose focus on our current major with too many details from our past. Something we plan on incorporating into our speech is talking about how the military experience Hannah and I have has helped us with our future careers and assisted us financially in school and explain how it can help others too.

  19. Since last class, we have developed a better sense of where we are going with our speech. Over the last few weeks, we very quickly figured out a plan and a basic overview of our script. We were able to organize who was responsible for different tasks, drafted questions, and developed a possible plan for filming. As for our questions and answer section, which will be the bulk of our script, we have a lot that we could use so now we just have to decide which questions are most important and will carry well with the audience. I think our biggest obstacle in the project will be time, 4-7 minutes is not a very long time to answer questions that we could all talk about for hours. I’m hoping once we can narrow down the questions, our script will start to come together and we will get a better sense of our plan for filming.

  20. Since last class I have been talking with peers about possible interview options. I’ve got a few in place and I plan on hopefully talking to some more higher ups, like my coach. I have also began writing down questions I’d like to ask my interviewees, I want them to be short interviews since I want them to be concise but also helpful to my audience. So I plan to developing the questions even more and picking more interviewees and developing the team outline as a whole. I feel like I am in a good spot as of now though.

  21. After doing our super extra early dry run and watching it back, i think our group did well for our first go at it. I saw a lot of things we did well but along with that i realized we could do a lot of things better. I know that i want to find a way to include myself more as the host and say why Im here and add my part of the presentation in so my work load will line up well with both Becca and Patrick. I would like to be comfortable enough while presenting to not have to read my paper or move around while we film our final run. But all in all i think we did a really good job with our dry run. going into our next dry run im happy to know we have things to work on.
