After watching the video, I can see that we did indeed speak a little too quickly. We should try and slow down the pace and explain our “prop” more when we actually have it pulled up. Our volume seemed just right, and our eye contact was maintained throughout the speech. Our speech has pretty good timing, coming in at just over five minutes. Our feedback also told us to slow down and to also watch for ums and uhs. I have to say that I felt like I said the most ums and uhs. Another feedback response we got was to include more visuals or actually project them, and Mackie and I are actively making our visuals better than they were before. I think overall we did pretty well for having very busy schedules, but that just means we are good at time management. 🙂 After giving our speech, Mackie and I had similar views, thinking that it went great and that we only had to make minor adjustments to our speech. I think we will be ready for next class, where we will give our speec

  2. After watching the dry-run for my speech with my partner I noticed a lot needs to be rethought and recalibrated. A couple things is that personally I need to work on my eye contact and my confidence when presenting. I also need to not go so fast when speaking and slow down so the words actually come out of my mouth correctly. What needs to be fixed with the presentation is it was too long. Especially if we are presenting to people who have never played chess before we should “dumb it down” so it’s not crazy to learn. Also need to do more research on background information for chess for next time. After reading all the comments from the class and what they thought about when watching the presentation, they got lost a lot or lost interest in the presentation. So taking the feedback and what I have noticed in the speech me and my partner will relook at the slides and work on how to deliver next time.

  3. After watching our video for the dry run of our speech I found we did certain things good and other things that could use improvement. I think Lilith and I did a good job at maintaining eye-contact and talking at a nice pace. We both previously told each other that when we present, we tend to rush so seeing that we hit 3 and a half minutes on our speech had us feeling good for our final presentation. We also did our best at splitting the speech as evenly as we could so that the pressure wasn’t on one person. Our most critical feedback was to utilize a prop however, since it was a dry run, we were not going to make the cake then. We will be using a prop and making the mug cake during our final speech. Speaking for myself, I need to work on less “ums” and “uhs” as it distracts from the speech. As well as engaging with the audience more.

  4. Watching my video, I can see that I need to work on my eye contact. I can also work on my speech, making my points clear. I think both our tones are good. We are not too quiet or loud. I think that we have a good flow, we are not rushing through and our layout is good to follow. Some of our feedback was to work on not mumbling, to make sure that we are speaking clearly. Another was our prop, we will have a powerpoint but I get it was kind of hard to stay attentive without something to visually see. I think we did good for a dry run, not saying we were perfect but we knew what points we wanted to hit. I also liked how we played off others’ presentations on how our “eating on campus” applies to everyone. I do think we need to work on our layout a bit and mumbling but for a dry run it was okay.

  5. After watching our video back I can see that we definitely did go a little fast paced. For our final draft we should make sure to slow down and really talk out what we are doing. We are teaching a skill to people who have essentially no idea how to do it so nobody will learn if we just zip through it. Another thing I personally need to work on is not looking at the outline so much. When we do our final I won’t have the outline up there with me so I need to be practicing without it. However even though we have some minor adjustments to make, I think our rough draft went really well. We were confident speakers up there and it was nice to work with the props so we could get an idea of how it would actually be. I feel good about this project because being up there with props and another person makes it a lot easier than being up there alone. It’s a lot less nerve wracking when you are sharing the nerves with someone else. Plus the topic is interesting so at least we are not talking about something boring or giving a speech about something neither of us care about.

  6. After watching the video of Mia and Mias speech we definitely needed constructive criticism and positive feedback more than we thought. Making sure the audience fully understands what our skill is actually is the most important thing. It was confusing whether we were just teaching an actual free throw rather than just teaching how to throw a ball. We also sounded confident on certain things but not others, we should always sound confident especially about a topic we both know well so expressing that more would be helpful.Using less of the outline would benefit us in making sure the audience knows how comfortable we are just talking and letting it come naturally is what they were looking for and is something we can both work on throughout the presentation. Also having an actual basketball itself will help show the different skills like placement of the hand on the ball rather than just talking about it, the tape on the floor actually visually showing a foul shot mark on the ground is also a good demonstration of using props and have a more real feeling. Taking it on more relaxed, and comfortable will make our presentation transition and run more smoothly.

  7. After reviewing the video of Kaitlyn and mines dry run I noticed how lifeless I looked when I was not talking, as if I was bored or hated it (which neither was true). I definitely need to work on facial expressions and body language when it comes to speaking but also when I am not the one speaking. The pace was decent but we could pace ourselves slightly better, I imagine our use of props and slides will help to pace out our speech too. We did have a few moments with filler words such as um and like, but hopefully we can be confident in our material enough to not use too many of those filler words if any at all. I did like how comfortable and open Kaitlyn and I seemed during our speech, we work well together which makes it much easier! After the speech and after reading some of our feedback we both agreed that we could focus on pacing ourselves better and using less filler words, but overall we were pretty content with how we presented ourselves and our topic.

  8. After our Dry Run in class, Sydney and I had lots of really good and helpful feedback for us to prepare for our real Speech, which we are doing on Tuesday. The feedback we got from our peers was quite positive, everyone was talking about how when we have our visuals it will be easier for our audience to understand exactly what we were talking about. The constructive criticism we received was that we talked very fast, which I know is a problem for myself. I talk at an aggressively fast pace no matter if I am nervous or excited or calm, so I know that is something I need to work on. The other piece of criticism we got was to add examples of how to show them to be organized. I think that we are going to add the element of how to be organized to our visual, so that we are able to show how to organize and how this can be a skill others can develop too. I think once we add the element of teaching the other students in class a way to organize it will be moe effective of us teaching a skill. As of now it feels like we are just talking about why we do it, and what it means for su. Now if we add this element it will really be like we are teaching everyone else how to be just a bit more organized.

  9. After watching the dry-run I did during the last class I can definitely see some things that I did well and some things that I need to improve on. I noticed my pacing was slightly faster than I anticipated wanting. I plan on slowing down next time and also coming up with more transition words to avoid saying uh’s and uhm’s. I liked my physical body movement throughout the speech, but I definitely need to bring in an actual ski next time which will make it a lot easier when I’m explaining the parts on it. I felt like I had good content, it was like teaching the beginning level of skiing and I thought I did that pretty well. I felt like I had a good story too that adds to not only the humor of the speech but the importance of knowing how to ski to avoid injury. I can probably introduce my topic better which I’ll look into and I also have to figure out how to get Kasey involved now that she’s coming back from her concussion. Still some stuff to figure out but overall feel like I’m in a pretty good spot.

  10. After watching the dry-run video, I think me, and Kasey had very good energy. We had good audience interaction and sounded knowledgeable about what we were talking about. When we were both speaking, we were able to bounce back and forth and really build off each other. We both had good annunciation as well as a good voice volume. Everyone in the back of the room could hear us. We were able to convey our skill in a timely manner, and we both did not feel rushed when talking. With all the good things being said, we could definitely work on some things before our final speech. For me personally, I could make better eye contact with the audience. When demonstrating the skill, I tended to look down rather than face the crowd. I also used spacer words a couple of times, so I would like to work on keeping those words at a minimum. Me and Kasey did not have our props during the dry run which made it hard for people to imagine what we were talking about. During our final speech, we will have our props and be able to utilize them as an asset to what we are talking about.

  11. After watching our dry run video, I thought it went pretty well. I thought our pace was good, and we spoke clearly. However, I could definitely improve my eye contact. It was very helpful to do the dry run because our speech is very hands on, and it was great to practice. That was our first time making the slime recipe, and we didn’t get it quite right. This lead to some awkward silence, and some gaps in our speech that could be worked on. For next time, I want to improve by filling in the gaps when we are mixing the slime together. I also want to keep good eye contact with the audience, even when I am not the one speaking. The feedback we received from the class was very helpful, and I will put some more work into our outline to improve the speech for next time.

  12. Our dry run I thought was not bad. I think we had the correct content and good ideas, but need to practice it to make it smoother. There were some awkward pauses during the making of the slime and so we definitely need to add some more things to say during that process. I also think it would be really beneficial to measure out beforehand the ingredients to make it all go smoother as well. I think we had good eye contact and we were loud enough. It is mostly just making sure we don’t have those awkward pauses and silence as well as making sure the slime goes well too. We split up the speech pretty well and we had good timing for it all so we do not really need to worry about those parts. Work on delivery which takes practice and we also need to be prepared with the slime ingredients and measure those out prior to our speech and slime making with the class. Other than that, we got really good feedback from classmates who all say the same thing that I had here. I thought those notes were really beneficial and helpful to what we need to work on but also what was going successful for us.

  13. After reviewing the video from Sophia and mines dry run that we did last class I noticed that some of the things that was working well was our eye contact with the audience. Our organization of our points really helped with the flow of our speech. We were confident with what we were talking about and we work really well together. One thing I noticed was that there were a few points when our pace was a little fast, which based off the feedback we got, made it a little hard for the audience to follow. We also used some filler words such as um and like, which we also got some feedback on. One thing I want to work on is even when I’m not speaking be sure to stay connected with audience through eye contact. One thing that will help with our flow, pace, and help the audience understand more for the final speech is our slide presentation with some pictures and short video clips. After reading all of the feedback we got from our peers, we both agreed to focus on our pacing more and using less filler words. Overall, we feel we did pretty well with how we presented our topic.

  14. From the dry run video, I don’t think I did as well as I could have. Right before my speech I had a good amount of coffee so I was a little bit on edge and jittery, which I might reconsider for future speeches. I also spoke a little fast, which I think was due to nervousness, and we ended up not making it to the minimum amount of time – I realized that I should try to slow down on my part of the presentation. For the final speech, I think I will try to add more helpful information for the audience to understand how the process of lobstering works and some of the key parts of the lobster trap. Re-watching the video, I saw how much I was fidgeting again and playing with the lobster bander, and while coffee is not fully to blame, it definitely did not help. Based off of this self-reflection, on Tuesday I will try to present my half of the speech slower and more comfortably, with limited amount of distracting movements. I think that if I practice my speech more, with my partner or not, I will be more comfortable presenting for my final.

  15. Our dry run was rescheduled due to my absence in class last Friday. With this extra time, we were well prepared for the speech, but there are still a number of things to improve on. For one, my part of the speaking could have been a bit more structured than it was. On the outline, the material looked great and it arguably flowed well, but once I translated it into speaking, it lost a lot of the substance. The way that Aiden and I both navigated the speech ended up working out really well. We had good give and take throughout the presentation and, according to members of the audience, it aided in their understanding of the material being covered.
In terms of content, our topic gave us plenty of things to talk about. Our decision to divide our speech into two components, professional and personal organization, gave an automatic working flow for us to work with. Where I had some trouble, I think, was splitting up the things I do. For example, I do not really know whether to classify both work and school under the professional category, nor do I know where I should talk about things in terms of tools and materials that I have. These issues will be fleshed out by the time of our final speech.

  16. After watching my dry-run I noticed while im not talking to the audience I would have bad body posture and poor eye contact while my partner was speaking. Along with that I think that I have a really bad tendency of using spacer words for example, um, like, uh for examples and it makes me sound unprepared, not as intelligent as I am and makes it sound sloppy. I believe I spoke well and confident when I had my time to speak. I liked the idea and how it sounded when I went to present it. For my final run I want to be able to be more focused and maintain good eye contact and not use spacer words to fill in the gaps.

  17. I honestly feel watching the playback of myself is a bit more painful than even the actual act of performing the speech. It legitimately hurt me to watch. Everyone was very kind with their feedback, so I really hope I am just being toxic in a self-depreciating way, but I genuinely can’t find anything I personally feel I did well. I certainly need to work on my spacing and use of filler words like “uhm”, but I also need to work on the flow of my words and articulation. It could be my nervous tremble I get when speaking In front of more than two people, but I feel my words felt rushed. I also noticed a major flaw in my audience-eye contact, as though I was looking around the room I was very rapidly. I almost looked scared, like a mouse crossing an open expanse!
Next time I think I’m going to try to switch up my speaking style, at least the factors I can control, to see if something else might work for me. Trying to flow in a smooth, conversational, and off the cuff-manner obviously doesn’t work for me in this context. Maybe a more rehearsed and animated speech style would work better for me, or something very slow and articulated, almost painfully so. I just feel I need to do something to see some sort of improvement and save my grade. I truly feel I did even worse this round than the first and that’s not indicative of my typical quality of work and developmental gradient.

  18. Our dry run has a lot of room for improvement. First off, the addition of the props will make everything much easier for both us and the audience because we need them for both the explanation and the demonstration. Next, I think we need to make sure we communicate better about the topics we are covering as well as how detailed our explanations are going to be. Making sure we use language that is understood by an audience who might not know anything about hockey is also important. We also need to follow the order of our outline to be able to bounce off the parts the other is talking about. We also both need to talk clearly and confidently. I know that I need to keep myself calm and not get overwhelmed if something doesn’t go exactly off the script and be able to refocus myself. Overall, I think we picked a good topic to talk about. It’s straightforward and the ability to quickly demonstrate it is nice because we are actually able to show the skill and not just have to speak about the skill.

  19. After watching the dry run video for speech 2, I believe we have a solid foundation to expand upon. Some of the supporting points were made up on the spot and were redundant with our other main points. The division of main points between Khole and myself flowed well. It wasn’t entirely her or I who was dominating the speech, we went back and forth without it being chaotic for the audience. I saw that I was fidgeting too much, which is sometimes how I naturally talk, but it can be distracting. Our presentation will add a better visual for some of our examples. We plan to meet again in person to create a more solid general outline, then our own outlines we will use in the final speech.

  20. I think our dry run went pretty well. I think for our final run I need to work on looking less at our outline (it was on my computer so I was looking at it more than when I would look at it on paper). I also think that I need to use less pauses/”ums” and be more confident with the material. As a group, Colby and I worked really well together. We were able to bounce off of each other and make it through all of our talking points without any stumbling. We were good at keeping our presentation around the time limit (for the final, it was over the dry run time). We also were able to give good advice to the audience, with our audience staying engaged throughout the whole speech. I felt like we kept to the prompt very well and stuck to that theme in our dry run. Overall, for next time we just need to work on the usage of pauses or “um’s” and be comfortable with the space between our words.
