Since I was assigned to my partner there have been a few completed steps of the speech two process. For one, Aiden and I were able to come to an agreement on what our speech should be about, which is organization. We thought this was a good idea after noticing a commonality in our pre-class ideas for directions regarding this assignment. The topic was fleshed out in class, and we came to a conclusion on the direction of our work, which was to come up with a rough draft outline and to go over them before next class.
To start, we exchanged phone numbers and emails for communication, and we immediately started working after that. Though not much work has been done, I can honestly say that I think our speech will be great in the end. The amount of work we have completed already in terms of content for the speech has painted a picture in my mind of a very effective future presentation. With the practice that is planned out as we work through this, we will be able to adjust our speech and get rid of any unnecessary information or kinks that we may encounter.
Communicating with my partner who I was assigned to, Mia , has been one of the most important aspects of doing a duo speech. We didn’t know each other till this moment so now putting out brains together and creating a flow is just what we need. We achieved that, as we both were open and honest about ideas of different skills we could present but one showed interest in both of us and we worked off of each other to come up with different ideas of how to fill the time. Adding both of our personalities we wanted it to be a conversation like speech that flowed, with some humor and audience participation. We started our outline on a piece of paper then formed one on google docs so we both could add and collaborate. Along with that we created a slideshow knowing we wanted to add some images to help present our idea and make it more real in a classroom setting. The main challenge was making the class feel like they are learning the skill with us, but also engaging in every point we say. As it’s not nearly perfect yet and is still in the workshop of things, I have every confidence that our speech will be a class favorite and one they will end up remembering throughout the days of speeches.
Since last class, my partner Maddie and I have been working on rigorously on the outline and rough draft for our presentation about the skill of lobstering. Our presentation will hopefully provide enough information to the class for anyone to grasp the basics of lobster fishing so anyone can get a chance to get out on the water and try it for themselves. We put together a list of potential props to bring to class in order to effectively demonstrate the skill, as well as formulated an structured outline for the flow and order of topics to talk about. The challenges we have faced have been with the props, ideally we would get a live lobster but they aren’t super easy to come by so we might have to use a stuffed lobster if possible. Additionally, it was tough to land of a skill that was feasible to teach as well as something we shared interest in. Maddie and I have had success in the creation of the structure of the speech, we were knowledgeable on the subject so the outline was created fairly easily. Until next Tuesday, we hope to practice our speech and get more comfortable with presenting to the class.
Since the last class, we have been working on creating our bullet points for the speech and our speaking points as well as creating the schedule for our busiest days. We communicated in class with our responsibilities for over the weekend, we set ourselves up in a really good spot at the end of last class, so we know that we were in a good spot to ensure we would have a productive weekend. As of now the only challenges that I have think we’ve encountered was just trying to figure out what skill we wanted to teach to the class, and one that we both had mastered in common. Trying to find things multiple people can do it hard, so that has been the challenge so far. I think our success as of now has also come from picking out our skill. We found something quite unique that we both are really passionate about so this speech won’t be hard to for us to create things to talk about. The fact that we are so passionate about this subject will really make the rest of the drafting and editing processes of our speaking points, and then the trial runs of the speech itself much easier.
I got assigned to do a speech with Kasey and we’ve had our fair share of challenges that we’ve already encountered. Entering this speech, Kasey and I didn’t know each other so we had to ask each other about our interests and find a common topic that we think we both are either experts in or want to become experts in. We landed on skiing, and we’re both happy with that option. As far as crafting the speech, we’ve written down a few things on paper that we’d like to mention and we’re beginning to draft an outline. We ran into a big obstacle now that Kasey has shared with me that she, unfortunately, got a concussion. So, we don’t know if things will look different for us, but as far as for me I’ll continue to work on the outline and develop my points for the speech. We’ve been communicating over email and Snapchat mainly and that’s been working effectively, and we’re both intrigued to do the topic of skiing as well. Although things may look different for us, we’re going to try our best to overcome this challenge, and have a good outcome at the end of it.
For this collaborative speech I am partners with Lilith. We quickly decided on a skill we felt we have mastered and from there found a subtopic we will be demonstrating. Our communication has been strong considering we were unable to meet. Lilith commutes to school and because of that it has been a little bit tricky to formulate our draft and share ideas since we don’t have as many opportunities to meet outside of class. However, since last class, we have been working on constructing our outline and continuing to gather ideas on how to present our skill. We have been making sure we stay in touch and share ideas we have over the phone. A success I have found is that we are open to each other’s ideas and will build off of them in all the ways we can.
For this collaborative speech, I am partners with Rachael. Last class, we exchanged phone numbers and emails so we can discuss our speech. Finding the right topic was like trial and error for us, but after drafting a few different ideas, we picked a topic that we are happy with. Our topic is very unique and creative. I am also really looking forward to presenting it to the class, so I would consider this to be our success. Our speech involves buying a few supplies, so Rachael and I communicated on who should buy what. This week we are planning to work on our draft. We do not have many obstacles, but it might be difficult for us to do the live dry run without all of our supplies. Even though this may be an obstacle, I am sure we will be able to accomplish a dry run without our supplies; we will just have to use our imagination. Overall, we have made great progress and are headed in a good direction.
Since last class me and my partner, Bobby; have been coming up with a good outline to go off for a dry run on Tuesday. First thing we did was exchange information so communication would be easier. We then came to an agreement on what skill we wanna do. We have bullet points of what we think is very important to start the topic off and then add additional sub points under those to make sure we go over what is being said. Me and Bobby have been communicating over text but are trying to work out a time to be able to both be on the google doc to work together.
When one of us is on the doc or slideshow we text each other to ask how they feel about it so we both have the same opinion on it.
For speech 2, I am partnered with Patrick. When we first started discussing potential topics for the project, we had trouble narrowing down what we wanted to do. Once we had an opportunity to discuss some of our similar interests and hobbies, we found something that worked for us. We started writing a rough outline for the speech as well as discussing who would do each part of the demonstration using the props that will be incorporated into our speech. Our biggest challenge is probably communication because we haven’t really had an opportunity to talk outside of class but, hopefully, after the next class, we will be able to sort that out and be in a better place, so we are both confident in our work moving forward. I think the plan we have developed is solid and we both have a good plan for how we want to deliver the speech so I have no doubt that our final product will be something we are both pleased with.

For this collaborative speech, I was partnered with Mackie. Since the last class, we drafted our ideas for our speech and made a bulleted list of talking points. We decided our “prop” would be a google sheet that is an example of our task. We decided to converse with each other via email and on a shared document that we have together. And so far we both have prepared independently because we find ourselves so busy. Since we prepared so well in class we found it okay for us not to meet outside of class, this decision was effected by our busy work schedules. Our biggest challenge was actually finding something that we both felt comfortable and passionate enough about to talk to the class. Ironically we both have a nack for planing due to our busy schedules. It was easy to create main ideas because of the things that we found in common. I think that we will successfully present this speech to the class in the next coming days.
Since last class, I have been working on what I am going to say during my speech. Kind of coming up with a game plan and how everything is going to be organized. My partner and I have exchanged emails/phone numbers to get in touch with each other if needed. We first came upon a challenge with our first idea. It didn’t really make sense to teach someone that and so we had to come up with a different idea. We then came up with a really good idea and now have been planning it out. I think one success that we encountered was creating a good idea and then getting a good start on planning the speech.
Since last class meeting and our initial partnering for speech 2, Kaitlyn and I have been working on an outline for our speech. We have already brainstormed our props – e.g. field hockey sticks, balls, example videos, images – but still need to rehearse how we plan to specifically use them. We communicate via email and also over our shared outline document, we also plan to zoom and/or meet up as we move further along in the process. We did recently encounter an issue that made us unable to zoom or meet up to discuss the upcoming live dry run, so thus far we have both been working on our shared outline on our own time. Last class, we presented a super rough draft version of our speech to some peers and managed to figure out who was going to talk during certain parts, we did not get to recording this or writing it down so we will still need to quickly discuss our roles before today dry run. Kaitlyn and I had a very smooth rough draft speech and I hope that with our outline and props we may be able to do even better. I am confident in our shared passion and understanding of the subject that we will be able to come up with an entertaining and educational final presentation.
I am working with HannahI’ve worked on creating a basic google doc of how to eat at college. I’ew communicated with my partner through texting and looking at our shared google doc to see what we have changed. Some challenges that I have come by are getting to the dining hall this semester. I live on the other side of campus and only have 2 classes, the rest are at the forum. So going all the way to the dining hall to trek back doesn’t take sense when I am at the forum most of my days. Another is having appliances that are not totally allowed in the dorms. However with dietary restriction students it is better to just cook your own meals and going down stairs is not best to cook a meal. Having the convenience of appliances in your own dorm helps to create healthy meals/ snacks. Overall I love the ideas of eating on campus, how and when to get food, tips for making healthy meals, and more.
Since the last class, where we received our partnering for speech 2, Sophia and I started working on an outline to follow for our speech. Together we decided to talk about a topic we both know well, field hockey. We have discussed what props we want to use like field hockey sticks, balls, pictures, and videos, and the next step is to find the best way to use them that will help our audience understand. Sophia and I have been communicating through email and on our shared speech 2 outline document. As we continue to work on our speech we plan to meet up and/or do zoom calls. We have not been able to do a zoom yet to discuss the video dry run coming up due to an issue that came up, but we have still been working on our outline on our own time. One thing we did well with was delivering a very dry run of our speech to another pair. The feedback we received from our peers was to use pictures to help them see what we are talking about, and we have done well with adding this into our speech. I feel that once our outline is complete and we have our props that we will be able to deliver a great speech.
My partner and I have been working on the specific tips and “hacks” that we want to use within our instructional speech. We created a document to list all of our ideas that will be used to create our individual speech outlines, as well as a slideshow that we plan to use as our prop. Our biggest obstacle was finding a common ground of our hobbies and skills we have “mastered”, that we could create a whole speech on. We both come from similar majors, however many of the original ideas we had surrounding those majors, we thought would be too boring. We both did not want to complete a nearly seven minute long speech about taking blood pressure or taping ankles, nor did we believe we could capture the audience’s attention or interest with those topics. With the topic we decided on, how to eat on a college campus, we’ve had a plethora of different ideas to work with, which is why we decided to take a more instructional tips method, rather than one specific skill.
Since last class, me and Kasey started to make an outline for our speech as well as a visual presentation. We were able to come up with an idea quick that assisted us with starting our outline early in class. Me and Kasey have been communicating over the phone to discuss our next steps in the outline and presentation processes. I feel that we both have not had any challenges yet as we are still very early in developing this speech, but we may encounter some in the future. If me and Kasey have any issues, we will just communicate to each other as soon as possible to sort things out. With that being said, we have had great successes. As partners were completely random, me and Kasey had to get to know each other. I feel like we were able to bond right away which was very helpful during the writing process. We have been diligently working so far!
I have always truly despised, with passion, group projects. I always feel nervous that my work is going to reflect negatively on my partner or vice-versa. So I have been highly stressed going into this speech and I feel group presentations are more of a final or semifinal level speech to give, as it is arguably one of the hardest forms you could give. So I feel this is a bit unfair, but luckily I have a great partner that is very easy to communicate with.
Since last class we have been doing a lot of corresponding via text, and we also plan on meeting once or twice in person to better collaborate and rehearse our presentation. Together we have a collective group document that we are both actively editing together. With that forming as our “speech notes” as well as our rough outline that we will reduce for a final outline. We have also done research for the project and got a rough speech dialogue going as well as organized how we would transition between both speakers. All and all its going smoother than I could have hoped but I am still very nervous.
Personally, as I stated in the beginning, I have a passionate hatred for group projects. And I went into this very concerned about the type of partner I would get and how well we would be able to communicate. But I just threw myself at the obstacle head on like a wave in a rough tide, reminding myself the whole time that this is worth it if only for the grade and is required of me. I am certainly glad I did because I actually learned a very insightful view from my partner about group projects, especially presentations, being easier due to having someone essentially taking concentration (peoples focus) and work off of you. Which I found truly insightful and view challenging.
My partner and I have been very excited to start this speech and begin to teach the class how to lobster trap. To start, we put together a pretty detailed outline of what we want to say and talk about and we also divided up what props we each need to bring. At the end of class we exchanged numbers so that we could keep in touch and plan different times to meet up and talk through our presentation. A challenge we have run into is reaching the time limit and speaking without looking at the outline so to overcome that we just need to practice a few more times. It’s helpful that this is a skill that we both know so it’s less of a memorization thing and more of just getting comfortable in front of the class and speaking smoothly. Another challenge is the props, since they are so large and bulky it’s kind of hard to practice with them casually since no one wants to carry around a lobster trap all day. A good thing is that we are both hardworking and willing to get this speech done correctly so we have found success in making time to meet each other and practicing when we can. We also have each done our share of looking over our outline to practice even when we are not meeting up.
For speech 2 me and G were partnered and we decided to talk about stretching. We both felt passionate about stretching both being life long athletes and both play a sport at UNE. We have taken a few different points and will look into them and try to make the presentation fun for the class while keeping a serious feeling while talking about something important. talking about the different types of stretching dynamic and static and what they mean.
We have been working on our outline. We made a small outline in class, but made a more detailed one on Sunday morning. We each have our specific outlines that pertain to what each of us are saying but share main ideas. We have been communicating through text and email. We also have a shared Google Doc that contains each of our outlines. A challenge would be where we needed to start. In class it was kind of difficult to come up with a skill that we both have mastered. I wrote down specifics in my outline and that helped me be able to tie it to Colby’s ideas and ensure that we were on the same page. I think I have encountered multiple successes. Colby and I were able to work really well together, which is half of the battle. We were also able to come up with a skill, organization, and stick to similar main points.
JOURNAL# 5: Even though I had my head injury as an obstacle, Keigan and I still communicated and met up a few times. He did most of the typing due to the challenge of me not being able to look at my screens. But we were able to work together with my limitations to come up with our outline. We also had a hard time figuring out which information to put in our outline due to our different experiences with skiing
